Fire Safety Violations in Texas Prisons Reported
The Texas State
Fire Marshal’s Office has reported more than 8,000 fire safety violations in
state prisons. This only means that these prisons are increasingly becoming
unsafe for the inmates. Violations include non-functional alarm systems,
missing fire extinguishers, and busted smoke detectors. These issues are not
new according to authorities. The Marshal’s office has noted these problems 10
years ago and up to this time, many of these violations are not yet resolved.
Just a year ago, a fire in one of the Texas prison took the lives of four
people because of faulty fire safety system. According to the Texas Department
of Criminal Justice, they need more funding from the government to improve
their facilities.
